- The medium, and any corrosive species in it
- Operating and differential pressure
- The contaminant, and its particle size distribution if it has been analysed
- The required rating, plus any bubble point or air permeability target
- Flow rate, and the number of elements per housing
- The geometry or the OEM number of the element you run today
