Sintered Metal Felt

Custom Sintered Fiber Felt Filter Element

Sintered fiber felt formed to your drawing — pleated cartridge, cylinder, disc or a custom shape — for duties no catalogue element fits.

Custom sintered metal fiber felt filter element formed to a drawing — a pleated cartridge, cylinder, disc or custom shape — with a welded end connection

A custom sintered metal fiber felt element rated 0.5–50 μm, formed to your drawing as a pleated cartridge, cylinder, disc or custom shape. Forming and welding happen in house; the felt is bought in to specification. Every batch is measured for bubble point and air permeability, and the element is washable and re-generable up to 600 °C.

The custom element is the route for a duty that no catalogue form fits. Sintered metal fiber felt is supplied to specification and then formed here to your drawing — a pleated cartridge, a cylinder, a disc or a custom shape — and welded to whatever the housing needs. Ratings run from 0.5 to 50 μm and service holds to 600 °C.

The work starts with the seven inputs that decide whether the element can be made and how it should be built: temperature and peaks, medium and its corrosive constituents, working pressure and differential, the contaminant and its size distribution, the required rating with any bubble point or air permeability target, the flow and the number of elements per housing, and the geometry or the OEM part number being replaced. Our 15 application engineers read the drawing and the duty together.

The result is a dimensioned drawing that carries the tolerances and the connection detail, issued for your confirmation before a price is given. Forming is ours — pleating, rolling, discing, flanging — and so is welding: TIG, resistance and laser welding of end caps, adapters and support layers, in stainless, titanium and nickel alloys. Sintered fiber felt is bought in to specification; everything after that happens in our plant. A replacement is confirmed from the used element, the drawing or the part number; a new design is confirmed from the conditions.

About 70% of the elements we ship replace an OEM part, and about 30% are designed from the operating conditions. Either way the element arrives with the same thing behind it: bubble point and air permeability measured on every batch, the record travelling with the dispatch. The felt is washable and re-generable, so the element is cleaned and returned to service. Drawing review takes 3–5 working days, samples are made in 20–30 days and production runs take 30–60 days.

Key Benefits

What this element buys you in service

  • 01

A form that fits the housing

Pleated cartridge, cylinder, disc or a custom shape — the element is formed to the envelope you have, instead of the housing being adapted to a catalogue element.

  • 02

    Replacements that drop in

Most of what we ship replaces an OEM part, confirmed from the used element, the drawing or the part number, with the flange and connection matched.

  • 03

    Confirmed before it is quoted

A dimensioned drawing carrying the tolerances and the connection detail is issued for your approval, so what gets welded is what was agreed.

  • 04

    Cleaned and returned to service

The felt is washable and re-generable and holds to 600 °C, so the element is cleaned on schedule rather than discarded.

Construction

How the element is built

  1. Protective mesh

Where the duty needs it, a coarse woven mesh over the upstream face protects the felt through handling and cleaning.

  2. Sintered fiber felt — the rated layer

Metal fiber sintered into a mat and then formed to the drawing: pleated cartridge, cylinder, disc or a custom shape.

  3. Support layers

Coarser sintered layers downstream that carry the differential pressure, so the rated felt keeps its pore size in service.

  4. End caps, adapters and edges

Welded in house by TIG, resistance or laser welding to the connection detail on the approved drawing.

Materials

Alloys this element is built in

The alloy follows the medium, the temperature and what the element has to resist. Where a duty sits between two of them, an engineer says which one and why.

  • 304 stainless steel

General duty where the medium is not aggressive.

  • 316L stainless steel

Chlorides or acids in the medium.

  • 310S stainless steel

Heat-resistant grade for continuous high-temperature service.

  • FeCrAl alloy

Oxidation-resistant at temperature where stainless steel scales.

  • Hastelloy

Nickel alloy for aggressive media where stainless is not enough.

  • Titanium

    Corrosive or high-purity service.

  • Nickel alloys

Aggressive media at temperature, where stainless is the wrong choice.

Industries

Where this element runs

The duties this element is bought for, and what it is filtering in each of them.

  • Hydrogen and industrial gas

Gas duties where the form is set by the housing and the element is cleaned and put back into service.

  • Battery and energy materials

Slurry and solvent streams where the element has to suit the vessel it sits in rather than a catalogue envelope.

  • Semiconductor

High-purity gas and chemical service with a cleanable element and a batch record behind it.

  • Petrochemical

Process filtration where a replacement has to match the element already in service.

Customisation

Built to your drawing

Send the seven inputs and we design from the duty, or send a drawing, an OEM part number or a used element and we replace it. Confirm the geometry, rating, alloy, connection and cleaning method, and a dimensioned drawing with tolerances comes back for approval before a price is given.

Send what you have — a drawing, a part number, a photograph of the element in place, or just the operating conditions. Nothing is quoted from a part number alone.

MOQ A few pieces to a few dozen

Datasheet, drawing and batch record

No document is published for this element yet. Ask for it and the engineering desk sends the drawing and the specification sheet — and, on a repeat order, the batch record with them.

Why Us

Tested before it ships, from a plant you can audit

Every element is welded and batch-tested in our own plant, and the batch record travels with the dispatch. About 70% of our work is a replacement for an element already in service, which is why a drawing or a used part is enough to start from.

  • ISO 9001 Quality system
  • 70 / 30 Replacement work to work designed from conditions
  • 30–40% Below the brand element it replaces
  • 3–5 days Drawing review before a quote

Questions

Questions this element raises

What do you need to quote a custom element?

Seven inputs: temperature and peaks, medium and its corrosive constituents, working pressure and differential, the contaminant and its size distribution, the required rating with any bubble point or air permeability target, flow and the number of elements per housing, and the geometry or the OEM part number. With those our engineers say whether the element is manufacturable and how it should be built.

How is a replacement element confirmed?

Send the used element, the drawing or the OEM part number. The equivalent is confirmed from dimensions, medium, rating, alloy and the connection detail, and the flange and connection are matched rather than approximated. About 70% of what we ship goes out this way.

Which forms can the felt be made in?

A pleated cartridge, a cylinder, a disc or a custom shape. The form follows the housing envelope and the flow, and it is proposed on the drawing. Send the envelope and the flow and it is settled there.

Can the element be a one-off?

Yes. The minimum order is a few pieces to a few dozen elements, so a first article or a short run is normal. Samples are made in 20–30 days and production runs take 30–60 days after drawing review.

How is the element cleaned between campaigns?

It is washable and re-generable and holds to 600 °C, so it is cleaned in place or off-line and put back into service. Tell us the cleaning method the line uses and we confirm it suits the felt.

What is measured and shipped with the element?

Bubble point and air permeability are measured on every batch in our own testing lab, and the record travels with the dispatch. We work to ISO 9001, and the approved dimensioned drawing is what the element is built and inspected against.

Send the drawing, or the duty.

A drawing, an OEM number or a used element is the fastest route to a quote. With only the process — temperature, medium, pressure, flow — our engineers select the medium and issue a drawing for approval before anything is sampled.
