Sintered Metal Felt

SS316L Sintered Fiber Felt Filter Cartridge

A pleated sintered fiber felt cartridge for fine-duty liquid and gas filtration, built to your drawing and cleaned rather than discarded.

  • 0.5 – 50 μm
  • Sintered metal fiber felt
  • up to ≤600 °C
Pleated sintered metal fiber felt filter cartridge with welded stainless steel end caps

A pleated sintered metal fiber felt cartridge rated 0.5–50 μm, for duties where the contaminant is fine and the element has to hold a lot of it. Metal fiber is sintered into a mat, pleated to the housing geometry and welded in house, then batch-tested for bubble point and air permeability. Service temperature holds to 600 °C.

The pleated sintered fiber felt cartridge is the element we build for duties where the contaminant is fine and the element has to hold a great deal of it. Metal fiber is sintered into a mat, pleated to the surface area the housing allows, and welded to the end caps, adapters and support layers that make it fit. Ratings run from 0.5 to 50 μm, and the element runs in liquid and gas service up to 600 °C.

Because the filtration layer is a fiber mat rather than a woven opening, the contaminant is held through the depth of the wall instead of on a single surface. That is what lets the element go longer between cleaning cycles, and it is usually why a felt cartridge is chosen over a mesh element when the differential pressure climbs faster than the production schedule can absorb.

We build these cartridges to a drawing or to an OEM part number. About 70% of our orders arrive as a replacement: send the drawing, the part number or a used element and we confirm the equivalent from dimensions, medium and connection type before anything is quoted. The remaining 30% start from operating conditions — temperature, medium, pressure and flow — and our engineers select the medium and issue a dimensioned drawing for your approval.

Forming, welding and testing happen in our own plant: pleating, rolling, discing and flanging, then TIG, resistance or laser welding of the end caps and support layers. Every batch is measured for bubble point and air permeability in our own testing lab, and the record travels with the dispatch. The element is washable and re-generable, so it can be cleaned and returned to service rather than discarded.

Key Benefits

What this element buys you in service

  • 01

Holds more before the pressure drop bites

The fiber mat filters through the depth of the wall, so the element carries more contaminant before the differential pressure becomes the limit.

  • 02

Cleaned and put back into service

Washable and re-generable, which suits lines that clean elements on a schedule instead of discarding them.

  • 03

    Runs where polymer media cannot

The sintered fiber structure holds to 600 °C, above the point where paper and polymer elements stop being an option.

  • 04

Fits the housing you already run

Pleated to your geometry, with the end caps and adapters welded in house, so a replacement matches the element in service.

Construction

How the element is built

  1. Protective mesh

A coarse woven mesh over the outside of the wall, protecting the felt through handling and cleaning.

  2. Sintered fiber felt — the rated layer

Metal fiber sintered into a mat and pleated. The micron rating and the bubble point are measured against this layer.

  3. Support layers

Coarser sintered layers downstream that carry the differential pressure, so the rated felt keeps its pore size in service.

  4. End caps and adapters

Welded in house — TIG, resistance or laser welding on stainless, titanium and nickel alloys.

Materials

Alloys this element is built in

The alloy follows the medium, the temperature and what the element has to resist. Where a duty sits between two of them, an engineer says which one and why.

  • 304 stainless steel

General industrial duty where corrosion is not the limit.

  • 316L stainless steel

Chosen where chlorides or acids are present.

  • Titanium

    Corrosive or high-purity service.

  • Nickel alloys

Aggressive media at temperature, where stainless is no longer enough.

Industries

Where this element runs

The duties this element is bought for, and what it is filtering in each of them.

  • Chemical fiber and polymer

Fine-duty filtration of the polymer stream, where a failed element means a line stop.

  • Petrochemical

Process stream filtration and protection of the equipment downstream.

  • Hydrogen and industrial gas

Fine filtration where the element is cleaned and returned to service.

  • Pharmaceutical and high-purity

Where the element has to be cleanable and the batch record has to travel with it.

Customisation

Built to your drawing

Built to your drawing: dimensions, pleat geometry, micron rating, alloy, end caps, adapters and the connection detail all follow the housing or the OEM element being replaced. Send a drawing, a part number or a used element and we confirm the equivalent before a price is given.

Send what you have — a drawing, a part number, a photograph of the element in place, or just the operating conditions. Nothing is quoted from a part number alone.

MOQ A few pieces to a few dozen

Datasheet, drawing and batch record

No document is published for this element yet. Ask for it and the engineering desk sends the drawing and the specification sheet — and, on a repeat order, the batch record with them.

Why Us

Tested before it ships, from a plant you can audit

Every element is welded and batch-tested in our own plant, and the batch record travels with the dispatch. About 70% of our work is a replacement for an element already in service, which is why a drawing or a used part is enough to start from.

  • ISO 9001 Quality system
  • 70 / 30 Replacement work to work designed from conditions
  • 30–40% Below the brand element it replaces
  • 3–5 days Drawing review before a quote

Questions

Questions this element raises

What rating should this cartridge be built to?

The rating follows the duty, not a catalogue default. Send the required micron rating plus any bubble point or air permeability target already written into your specification, and the felt is selected against it. Where the rating is still open, send the contaminant size distribution and we propose one.

Can you match the cartridge we are running now?

Yes — that is most of what we build. Send the OEM part number, the drawing or a used element and we confirm the equivalent from dimensions, medium, pleat geometry and connection type before anything is quoted. The flange and connection detail are matched, not approximated.

How is the element cleaned in service?

It is washable and re-generable, so it is usually cleaned in place or off-line and returned to service. Send the cleaning method your line uses and we say whether it suits the felt or whether the duty is better served by a sintered mesh element.

What does one batch of cartridges cost and how long does it take?

Drawing review takes 3–5 working days, samples ship in 20–30 days and production runs take 30–60 days. The minimum order is a few pieces to a few dozen elements, and samples are tested on your line before volume production.

Which alloy should the cartridge be made in?

304 or 316L stainless covers most industrial duty; titanium and nickel alloys are used where chlorides, acids or high purity make stainless the wrong choice. Send the medium, its concentration and the operating temperature and we name the alloy.

What travels with the shipment?

The measured batch record. Bubble point and air permeability are checked on every batch in our own testing lab, and the record ships alongside the elements, so the figures the element was accepted against are the figures you hold.

Send the drawing, or the duty.

A drawing, an OEM number or a used element is the fastest route to a quote. With only the process — temperature, medium, pressure, flow — our engineers select the medium and issue a drawing for approval before anything is sampled.
